Ares Galaxy
Ares Galaxy is a
P2P program, which is in charge of sharing
files and information through a P2P net, inspired in the
Gnutella net, which has been specially developed for
Ares.

This software is developed with the Delphi programming language for
the Windows operative system, but, currently, it can also be
used using the Linux operative system, because became official
by the action of GNU, meaning that it is, already, a free
software which can be easily modified by any user.
This program was created in 2002 as part of the Gnutella net, to
be able to exchange files among users. At first, this program
charged an installment, which covered its usage, and it also
came, when you installed it, with an adware, which is no more
than type of virus known as spam, but due to the lack of
acceptance among the users, they decided to remove it from the
program. |

After these, it had a massive acceptance, because it
was incredibly fast and a very flexible protocol, also, because
of its tools, in which you were able to find the interactive
chat tool, which allowed you to chat with other users and it was
very easy to download the applications.

In a short period of
time after its launched, the number of users considerably
increased from ten thousand to up to more than a million of
active users. |

However, the new versions of
Ares were too slow,
and due to the growth of the user’s net, which increased every
day, new Ares – like programs were launched. These programs
ensured to be much more efficient, because of the pressure of
the users, because the maintenance of the server was not
continuous, and the possible demands that they could appear with
by the users, they changed the program to a
free software with a GLP license, since then, the program can be found in
Sourceforge.net, which offers different kinds of files and tools,
besides from a forum in which you can actively participate to
improve the program’s source code.
In 2007, Ares reached the 2.0.9 version, which had new changes
in its interface and in its file download control; one of its
improvements is that it is, now, also compatible with a type of
format known as . |

Torrents, which is another download solicitor,
but it uses another type of net, called
bit torrent. Also, its
graphic interface includes a Gecko motor, which makes it much
more efficient and quick.
By the end of 2008, the new 2.1.0 version was launched, which
solved the connection problem that version 2.0.9 used to have,
besides, new skins were added and a lower wait time when you are
downloading files. They have, also, modified the chat part,
which has been redesigned and amplified. Currently, in 2009,
there is a more modern version known as 2.1.1 and it has new
tools, as another important change, we can see that the file
control has been modified so the efficiency and the download
time decrease.
