What
is Kazaa?
It is a program used to
exchange files through a P2P net and it uses a
special protocol known as Fast Track, which is used to transfer
music, videos, images, photos, and documents, among other
different formats, such as mp3,
divx, mov, mvi, etc. |
|
|
|
This protocol is characterized for using a new
super node technology, which relieves the charge of the
information traffic, thanks to this protocol we can resume the
download of our interrupted files and simultaneously
download from
several servers.
The Kazaa programs and the Fast Track protocol were created by
Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, who worked for months for this
project, and it was presented in March of 2001, by the Dutch,
Consumer Empowerment Company.
The Kazaa program is exclusive for
Windows, but it
can be emulated in
operative systems such as
Mac OS X,
Linux,
Ubuntu, etc. and to
access to the Fast Track net, you have to use emulators, such as
the much known MLDonkey. |
|
|
Nowadays, there are many programs like Kazaa,
even derivatives such as Kazaa Lite Resurrection or Kazaa Lite
K++, these are much alike the original, but have more tools,
besides they do not have the spyware that the original Kazaa has,
because it used the spyware as an economic subsidy media. |

 |
Explaining a little bit the types of malware that
Kazaa has: at the beginning, it was said that there were never
malicious codes introduced in it that picked up information of
the users, but some anti – virus software detected the program
as virus, but it is not possible to eliminate spyware without
removing the whole program, among the
malware in Kazaa,
we can find: |
|
Cydoor: this is from an Israeli
Spyware
company, which started putting publicity ads in Kazaa, but is
now expanded as publicity net, the worst thing about this
malware is that it cannot be removed with any Windows’ software
or even with the program it came it, so the only thing left is
to use antispyware. |
|
|
BD3: this is also a malware that puts up
publicity ads in a
pop
– up mode in web sites such as anti –virus software or
other companies. It can only be eliminated using an
anti –virus software.
Alnet: this is an spy programs that installs itself with
an exchange file program such as Kazaa, when the user looks for
files from Kazaa, it introduces publicity, it can be about music
or even from companies, or the word you inserted in the
navigator.
Gain: also known as gator is a spyware that was created
by Claria Corporator and is installed in computers in which P2P
programs are installed, it causes problems with your net
connection, instant messaging, and in some cases, it can even
create issues with TCP / IP protocols, for which the whole
protocol need to be rebooted. This spyware can be removed with
anti - virus or antispyware software, many use “Spybot Search
and Destroy”.
InstaFinder: this is a malware that works in DLL formats,
and is installed through Plugins in the Microsoft’s Internet
Explorer, this program changes the web page you might be
entering to into publicity pages and pop ups.
This is why when you are downloading the program you have to
consider these malware programs; it can be downloaded from here:
