Mozilla is a non –
profit organization that has as a goal to
create free software with open codes, it has
the support of a community of contributors
which are free to give their opinions and
modify their projects, it also provides new
projects, which can be downloaded from their
web site, many contribute with these
organizations by translating or writing
tutorials or with codes for new applications.
This project was launched in 1998, after the
source code of the Netscape was launched, later the Mozilla
Foundation was created on July the 15 in 2003, and even today it
has as a slogan and an objective to “keep the choice and
innovation in the Internet”, the primordial characteristics of
this organization are:
Having a free and open code, they have different licenses, such
as MPL, GPL or LGPL, which are from different foundations that
vote for a modifiable and free software, it also provides the
source code of all its products, so it can be modified by any
contributor who might be interested in contribute with an
improve or utility.
It respects standards, usually it does not go out
of the boundaries of the organization’s standards, which also
have a free software
with an open code such as: W3C, ECMA, IETF. All these
organizations support the equality of terms among the nets and
the fact that there is no virtual monopoly, which gives the user
the freedom to choose the type of software he is going to use
and is not forced to choose one.
It has the advantage of been able of taking part
of almost every
operative system and platform there is, such as: GNU/Linux,
BSD, Solaris, Microsoft
Windows, MAC Os,
Ubuntu, Unix based
systems, etc. Due to the fact that it has the support of many
organizations that back up the open code policies, it also has
the support of thousands of contributors who are able of
modifying the system so it is apt to other systems; besides, it
has the advantage that it has been translated into many
languages, thanks to the constant support of its community.
