Symbian
Symbian is an
operative system used in
cell phones.
It was created by an alliance between
several telephone companies such as Nokia,
Sony Ericsson, PSION, Samsung, Siemens,
arima, benq, Fujitsu, Lenovo, LG, Motorola,
Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, Sharp, etc.
This operative system was based in its
predecessor EPOC3, which was used in PDas
and Handhelds. |
|
|
This operative system was created so it
could compete with other operative systems
that were already in the market such as the
Windows Mobile, the operative system for
Windows Palms.
It started in 2003, when Nokia bought a
percentage of its participation from
Motorola in this operative system, which had
already been created, after a while, it
bought half of its actions in this project
from Sony Ericsson and in 2008, it bought
Symbian, having
52% of the participation, after this, with
Nokia and the other companies, they agreed
in creating the
Symbian Foundations to be able to
convert it into a free source project, as
well as other programs and open source
applications. |
|
Currently, in most of the Nokia cell phones
with this operative system, meaning the ones
with the 60 series, superiors and also the N
series. On the other hand, Sony Ericsson
uses this operative system in some cell
phones that have integrated a Walkman and
personal organization, among those we can
find: W960i, P800, P802, P910, P990, P1i,
P900, W950, G705, G900 and M600i. |
|
 |
However, the other cell phone manufacturers
who use this operative system are very scant;
for example, Motorola uses it in its models:
a925, a1000, a1010, Z8, Z10, a920, and a728.
another case is the manufacturer company
Samsung, which uses the Symbian in its
models SGH - G810, SGH - i450, SGH - i550,
SGH - i520, SGH - i560, SGH - i8510, SGH -
D720 y SGH - D730. Panasonic only uses it on
its models X700 and X800. also Siemens uses
it on its model SX1. |
|
Regarding this operative system, its
interface for the user counts with five different versions of
this operative system, we can find the 60 series, the 80 series,
the 90 series and the 40 series, which are the most used ones in
Nokia cell phones, the UIQ technology is used in cell phones
such as Sony Ericsson.
The difference between this and the other versions, is that it
has the possibility of using touch screens, according to
whichever the characteristics of the machine could be, its
applications can be created in the C++ language and Java Me,
also, their code can be modified because they are from an Open
Source. |

To install Java and Symbian applications in
a cell phone, you only need to download the
file and pass it through a pen drive, if you
are interested in downloading files and
applications, I recommend you to visit this
page: http://www.javasymbian.org/, where you
will find different programs in Java and for
Symbian, obviously you have to have a cell
phone from one of the brands that were
mentioned above, and if you have any doubts
regarding how to install them , you can
always visit the forum, in which there are
many tutorials for each model. If you wish
to see it in English, you can see it from
here: http://symbianapplications.net(, it
also has very good applications and
tutorials for each cell phone brand.
