Microsoft�s window. What is Windows?

Windows is the most spread operative system around the world, designed by Redmond�s giant Microsoft (Washington � USa). This product of the corporation established by bill Gates and Paul allen, has set a historical landmark, because it made possible to leave behind the command sequences of control, such as the ones

used with the DOS operative system, and allowed the millions of users around to world to access to a graphic interface, based in the windows concept (a window represents an executed task or one been executed)

This product is the responsible for the fact that Gates and allen have ensured their country a pass into history and their constant influence in the computing world. but Windows is not a stuck product, since the end of the eighties until nowadays, there have been more than 10 versions, which shows the constant updating and research Microsoft investigates regarding the user�s needs.
 

Windows is also a trademark that represents a wide range of operative systems designed, developed and commercialized exclusively by Microsoft; in the current market there are versions especially developed for users in their homes, companies, servers and mobile devices (Notebooks, 3G mobile phones). Window�s influence in the computing development has caused that most programs (software or applications) are been developed thinking in this particular operative system, this happens in both, commercial and free programs.

Nowadays, Windows is one of the products with greater sales at a worldwide level; it holds almost 90% of the operative systems in the international market. That is the main explanation for which for many users, Windows is a synonym of operative system, leaving other options aside since the Free Software movement. It should be remembered that Windows is an operative system that stands out for been very easy to use for anyone, which brings it near to the users.

There is a recurrent problem in Windows� versions: Safety. Security failures produced in Windows are now the main source of questioning, by their competitors, regarding the dominance of this operative system. Microsoft, in order to be able of solving this situation, has had to turn to the development of posterior security updates (even published monthly), and they also have had to develop readjustments in the different versions of Windows (specially in versions which were launched after Windows 98) called Service Packs or Patches.

Finally, in other aspects, been such a popular product has brought as a consequence that many hackers (computing pirates) have turned Windows into a target which is vulnerable through their security mistakes. On the other hand, the new wave of the Free Software has become a source of strong criticism for Microsoft, due to the controversies regarding the publication of Window�s source code.

Summing up, loved or hated, Windows is an operative system that has made its way through computing, and that is currently resisting to be part of the past, as they are showing with their newest version that will be in the market before the end of 2009, the Windows 7.
