First, you should know that,
for been mostly an anglo culture, canadian people act in a
very reserved way, that is why this is one of the main
shocks that every Hispanic has to go through, due to the
fact that he or she has always been used to a very open
social environment, and specially, a really friendly
culture.

So, it is very important for
the immigrant to defeat the idiomatic
barriers, so, in that way, been able of
bonding to a society, that even when has
many differences with the immigrant, is
willing to take him or her as one of its own.
been the immigrant a person with all the
rights, they have at their disposal a health
system that is world widely known, one of
the top education systems (free up to high
school and subsidies for higher education).
It is true that there are other details,
such as a very low crime rate, different
massive transportation system (bus companies,
urban train nets), etc. but in the last
years, a great setback has produced for
immigrants, recent researches have thrown
alarming data about the unemployment levels
in the immigrant population, and the
disparity between immigrants and the
canadian natives, regarding how fast they
are able of finding jobs.
These reports show that immigrants between
the 25 and 54 years old with university
studies have an unemployment rate of 12.1%.
On the other hand, the rate of non immigrant
canadians, with the same qualification level,
is of only the 3%.
With these, what I am trying to say is that,
even when it is true that
canada offers you
multiple chances, these opportunities will
not be for free. You should take into
consideration that you will have to struggle
for a job position, not only with other
immigrants but with people who has been born
in canada. And that is the main barrier that
needs to be broken, you need to trust that
your abilities are worthy for different
organizations, so they can bring you a
chance.
The current economic crisis is going to
change many traditional behaviors of the
work market, at a worldwide level. The
opportunities will be very few and the
options will be fought by many candidates.
For Jean Perrault, president of the canadian
municipality federation, the present
economic conditions are going to make ever
more urgent the working situation of the
immigrants in canada, which will, according
to him, going to have an impact in both,
family and social matters.
Summing up, an
immigrants life in canada, even when it is the beginning of many
possibilities, it means a great amount of
changes, that drag a chain of difficulties
and obstacles, all of which you should be
aware before migrating. Forget about the
weather and the isolated circumstances; a
quick bonding with the canadian idiosyncrasy
(culture and language) and an adequate
working insertion, will keep your life in
canada from been a torture, and you will be
able of planning your next steps over secure
land.
