It is an innovative navigator which has an open code, meaning that it can be modified by the user with total freedom; it was created by the Mozilla Corporation and has received help from the thousands of members of its community. Currently, it is the second most popular navigator after the Internet Explorer; it has 20.78% of the users that use navigators.

This navigator uses the Gecko motor, developed under the C++ language and developed by Netscape, which supports it for different codes such as: HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.1, CSS 1 and 2, DOM, XML 1.0, RDF, SVG 1.1 and JavaScript 1.7. besides, it has a great number of tools such as: orthographic corrector, progressive search engine, navigation through tabs, dynamic markers, a download manager and, also, a predefined search system or one chosen by the user.

Its multiplatform version has also been launched, so operative systems such as Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and also others based in the Unix system such as Ubuntu.

This software started thanks to the work of Dave Hyatt and blake Ross, who took it as a project, but afterwards it would become crucial for Mozilla; its original name was Mozilla browser, but it was later changed into Phoenix, but after having some legal issues for the name, due to the fact that the company bIOS Phoenix Technologies had it, they were forced to change it into Firebird. Then, because it was similar to the firebird data base, they had to change it back to Mozilla Firefox.

afterwards, many versions were published, where more and more tools were added in order to achieve a more complete search, until the version 3.0 came. This version was launched on June the 16th in 2008 and it had a new search engine called Gecko, which offered support for new incoming technologies such as: XUL, XbL, PNG, HTTP, POP3, SMTP, RDS, CSS. and it worked in almost every operative system.
