How to create a safe
password
Passwords are a way of identification for obtaining
personal information that is been stored, it can be
stored in an
e-mail servers, a bank account, in the
net administrations, in our own
PC or in any systems
that holds some sort of confidential information.
|
|
|
Passwords are often used by one user, unless we have some common
information with someone else, like the ones used in companies
or businesses to access to the system, but for those who only
got one private passwords, it is very important that they take
into account some tips that will make your
security pretty
effective.
In order to achieve this, we must know what makes a
password
secure, because most
passwords that have
been hacked have been
because they represent something in concrete, like a known name,
some date related to the user, a known phrase or short words,
that is why we must consider several
methods of protection to be
able of achieving the protection we require.
|
|
One of these methods is to combine
letter, numbers and symbols; because when we use
different types of characters it makes our
password
harder to be hacked. Let’s make sure it is not too
short or too long, it has been proved that each
character you add to your password increases
exponentially the difficulty to find it, to make
myself clear, here is an example: a password with 15
characters composed only by
random numbers and letters
is 33 000 times safer than a password with 8 character
composed by random numbers and letters. The ideal
password would combine the letter length with the
symbols. |
|
|
but if you have issues remembering your chosen password, try to
memorize it by sections, for example: a password 346+456*567+
can be memorized in sections of 4 characters (346)(456*)(567+)
as you would do with a phone number. Another way for you to
remember is by assigning some sort of meaning to the characters,
for example:: “Iloveu4ev3r”., as we can see numbers were replaced
by words or letters; another example would be:: “My Son Áng3l is
3 years oLd”. |
another piece of advice I would recommend is to use the
password
checker that some applications such as e-mail servers offer,
because they help you to verify the
level of security your
password is offering, for example: the service Hotmail has
counts with this application and has a little bar in which it
shows you with different colors the level of security your
password registers. |
|
Do not forget to keep your passwords to
yourself, if you have them written down somewhere, keep
them in a safe place that only you have access to, and not
somewhere where anyone can access; it is also important to
point out that you must change your passwords often, that
way you help yourself to keep away and confused any
spiteful person who could be trying to discover your
password.
Last but not least, we have to be careful
with the people using our PC, because there are software
that can be installed by any stranger and that work
offline, these software are able of gathering our personal
information, such as our
Hotmail password, or any other
password and send it to some unknown addressee.
