What is aVG?

aVG is a term related to security software and prevention before threatens of viruses; this term was used for the first time by the computing security company aVG Technologies, which came from their first product anti – Virus Guard;

this Czech company was formed in January of 1991 by Gritzbach and Tomas Hofer. At the beginning of September in 2005, the company was bought by Intel Corporation. On april the 19th of 2006, Ewido net became a part of the aVG Technologies group.

On November the 6th of the same year, Microsoft announced that products from aVG would be available directly from Windows Vista’s Security Center.

Since June the 7th of 2006, the aVG software has also been used as an optional component of GFI’s E-mail Security, produced by the Software GFI. On December the 5th of 2007, aVG announced the acquisition of Exploit Prevention Labs, developer of the LinkScanner, which makes navigation in the internet, secure. On February the 8th of 2008, Grisoft announced that they will change the name of the company, from Grisoft to aVG Technologies. This change was made to increase the efficiency of their marketing activities.

aVG Technologies provides a number of products of the aVG line, compatible for Windows 2000 and further versions. besides this, aVG Technologies also provides versions of their antivirus software for Linux and FreebSD. aVG antivirus Software is available for both, freeware versions and commercial editions. Since aVG 8.0, the commercial edition of aVG antivirus 8.0 includes antispyware, LinkScanner, anti – Rookit, Web Shield and the Toolbar for secure navigation. aVG antivirus 8.0 also has the protection of a Firewall.
